Preschool Graduation
Rena was in the 4 year old program at Preschool this year. And since they are the oldest, they get to graduate. How sweet is this. I love our Preschool! They did it in the chapel, at night. It was a special event for the children...and one of the stepping stones of childhood. (sniff, sniffl..I'm tearing up just thinking about it!) This was only our second year there, but we made good friends and had a great time. I'm really excited that Rachel and Riley will have been there for the whole time by the time they graduate.

God Bless America
I tend to have a pretty tough exterior. It's not necessarily and act, there just isn't alot that gets to me. I can see both side of most situations and I tend to not be that emotional. I run on an even keel.
HOWEVER, my achilles heel is when I hear children sing. I don't know why, but get a group of kindergarteners together singing the ABC's and I become and emotional basket case. And I taught Kindergarten for YEARS. (Sidenote: I can't read the Polar Express without crying either and I usually had to have my assistant finish reading it everytime I read it to my class. One year she was busy and didn't realize I was circling the drain. I did finish reading it, but I was a mess. It was awful!) Anyway, I was mopping the kitchen this morning and the girls were sitting on the back of the couch watching me. What? You didn't know that mopping is a spectator sport. So Rena starts singing God Bless America. I didn't even know that she knew this song, but she didn't miss a word or a note. Her sweet little sincere voice got to me. I had to turn my back to them so they wouldn't see me. And when she finished she said..."Mommy, did you like my song?" Bwahaha. I was bawling! Beautiful.

Haircuts all around

Rena's was from last summer. I took all the girls to get their haircut last week. It went really well and I love their new bobs. I got Rena's trimmed, so there wasn't a drastic difference in what she looked like. Plus, none of them were very cooperative in taking pictures of their new do's. So now everyone has had their first haircuts. Rachel in particular needed one. She had all this fine baby hair and her hair is really curly, so she always had bedhead. It does make them all look a little more grown up. :(Shiner
Check out this shiner! It was an accident prone afternoon here. Rena was out in the garage and she climbed through the back of the double stroller. It fell backwards and she caught herself with her forehead. I don't know why you can't see it in this picture, but she had a hugh knot on her forehead. I didn't realize until hours later that she had a black eye. Poor thing. Later that afternoon she fell, in the garage again, and raked her side down the tray on the easle. I give my children lots of creative freedom. I used to teach elementary school and I believed in giving them creative freedom too. I though I would share what happens when creative freedom goes awry. Let me give you the rundown, since the picture may not tell the whole story.
Daughter #1 is sporting a winter snowflake shirt with ruffled hem paired with hand-me-down fruit skort. Rounding out the ensemble are the hello kitty sandles from last summer that are 1 size too small and fully coated in Georgia red clay. This outfit is finished off with a lovely pink knit cap(matching sweater not shown).
Daughter #2 is STILL in the princess dress that was daughter #1's Halloween costume 2 1/2 years ago. No matter. It looks fetching on her and has for the last 14 days. Daughter #2 chose to accessorize her look with the ladybug rainboots and Little Me rain jacket fitting for the occasion. Missing from the 'accessory queen' are the sunglass, necklaces and overdone 'lip stuff' she normally wears.
Daughter #3 self dressed in pink striped pants that, until this morning's closet clean out, also belonged to sister #1. This lovely outfit is rounded out with a fleece jacket and mismatched ladybug slippers from Target. This is quite the step up since she is usually only fetching a diaper.
Even though they look like the might be trying to replicate the well known "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" they are really just trying to protect themselves from the tornado bearing wind.
Hope you enjoyed the Saturday night fashion show. Drive safe out there!

4 year olds rock!
Rena has become quite the little helper. The other morning while I was taking a shower, I let the little girls play in the tub. I really didn't have much of a choice, because as soon as I said "Mommy's going to take a shower" they both stripped off their clothes and got in the tub. Rena didn't want to take a bath (they had all just had one). So, she proceeded to bath her sisters. They were much more cooperative with her than they ever are with me. And she did a great job. They were clean top to bottom. She even helped get them out and dry them off! How about that!

I lub you
I can't believe how big my girls are getting. Rachel and Riley have turned into little girls overnight and Rena is such a big girl.
Riley has been going around the house telling everyone that she 'lub's them. She is such a sweety. She'll come hug me and say "I lub mommy" and continue on, "I lub dad-a", "I lub Way-way", "I lub Minda". Minda is how both she and Rachel say Rena. I can't figure it out. They can both make the R sound in each other's names, but Rena always comes out Minda. Anyway, you can just see it in her face how much she does really love us all...even Max gets a big hug and an "I lub Max". It's really sweet.
Rachel, meanwhile, is continuing with her independent streak, but she is sweet also and likes to cuddle with me, and me only. My lap is prime territory and whomever is there guards it vigorously. It's like a bizarre game of King of the Mountain. Rachel will snuggle in with me, but she is constantly surveying the area for potential de-throners. Her thumb securely in her mouth and her other hand on her belly button, she watches for her sisters who might want to share my lap. If they come too near, they just might get kicked. This 'game' usually goes on until I can't stand it any longer and have to get up, eliminating the lap all together!
Rena, my little social butterfly, is loving pre-school and all of her friends in the neighborhood. She is entering a period of helpfulness and I am taking full advantage of it. In the past, if I asked her to help with something, she would tell me 'no' flat out. Now, she's helping clear the table, helping with her sisters by getting them dressed and in the bathroom, actually putting things away for me. It's great. She's also very much into makeup and handbags. She will put her chapstick and what ever else she can find that passes as makeup into different bags and carry them around. They usually get left at someone elses house, but, oh well. What really cracks me up is that I rarely wear makeup and I don't usually carry a purse, or even a diaper bag. She must get that from her grandmom!

swimming

Today was our last day of swimming lessons for awhile. Rena has done really great. This last session has been really difficult for her and a real challenge. It started off on the wrong foot with the new teacher. Rena takes a little while to warm up to new people and this teacher didn't even let me tell her Rena's name before she had grabbed her and basically dropped her in the pool. Aside from the obvious, the main problem was that Rena didn't know that she was changing teachers and the old teacher, Ms. Joanne, was in the lane next to the new teacher. I didn't know we were changing teachers either and therefore didn't have a chance to prepare Rena for the change. Oh well. After a few classes, Rena really liked Ms. Daniella and even more amazingly she learned to swim. She went to swim lessons with a positive attitude every time and she left every lesson crying and telling me she didn't like swim lessons. So I decided we needed a little break to master the skills and increase our confidence. She left today's lesson happy. Go figure
